Illustrative Posters
Poster design explores the delicate relationship between text and image as they interact, yet remain separate entities within the picture plane.
The four text-and-image relationships are categorized as:
Fragmentation: when type and image disrupt each other to convey friction of ideas or to animate an idea.
Fusion: when type and image blend together, strengthening the existing conceptual connection.
Inversion: when type and image trade positions; the type resembles pictorial properties or the image resembles typographic qualities.
Separation: when type and image operate independently, providing clarity through the separation.
During development, each approach was prototyped, allowing the best solution to be further explored in the final poster.
Color Meaning
Objective: To produce a poster demonstrating the color psychology and associations evoked by a specific color.
Solution: Conveyed the feminine qualities associated with the color lavender.
Approach: Fusion
Challenges: Distilling and explaining the color’s meaning in accordance with minimalist imagery and terse copy.
Outcomes: Understanding that every element serves a purpose and contributes to the intended message. If it does not enhance the visual meaning, then it is unnecessary.
